Comprehensive wine cellar solutions from design to installation
Custom Wine Cellars
Where tradition meets modern technology
Since 1996, Redwood Wine Cellars has been combining historical wine storage practices with modern technology to create the optimal aging environment for your collection. Our design techniques incorporate stone, reclaimed barrels, murals, faux finishes, and custom woodworking to create cellars that are as beautiful as they are functional.
We provide complete design, construction, racking, and cooling services for both residential and commercial clients. Our portfolio includes projects at notable establishments including Bacana Steak House, Scape, The Melting Pot, and several local country clubs and retail wine shops.

Environmentally Responsible Practices
We use sustainable, commercially grown woods and water-based stains with low VOC concentrations. This protects both the environment and your wine — ensuring no chemical odors or off-flavors affect your collection. Our water-based finishes offer enhanced UV resistance, faster drying times, and deeper wood grain penetration.
Custom Doors
Specifically designed for wine cellar environments
Our wine cellar doors are constructed from hand-selected quarter sawn sapele wood, measuring 1¾" thick and displaying natural ribbon patterns. Each door features double-insulated glass panels, exterior weather stripping, and pin actuated mechanical bottom seal to maintain your cellar's controlled environment.
Cellar entry doors can be crafted from the same material as your wine cellar for a seamless look. When ordered with water-based finishes, we apply a matching finish to the door. Alternatively, exterior doors can be left unfinished for painting to match your home décor. All doors come with hardware of your choice.
Wood Selections
Premium materials for lasting beauty
Free Wood Samples
Not sure which wood is right for your cellar? We bring free samples directly to you during your consultation so you can see and feel the options in person before making a decision.
Sapele
A member of the mahogany family, sapele features a beautiful flowing grain pattern. It is odorless and naturally resistant to rot and mold, making it excellent for wine storage. Sapele is also widely used in flooring, doors, and guitar manufacturing.
Black Walnut
Black walnut is a premium American hardwood prized for its striking dark brown to chocolate hues and intricate grain patterns. Its dense composition provides exceptional strength and durability, while its natural resistance to moisture and insects makes it well suited for the humid environment of a wine cellar. Black walnut also has natural deodorizing properties that help keep cellar air fresh, preserving the quality and taste of your wine.
Alder
Alder is a versatile wood that offers a warm, rustic character with attractive knot patterns and wavy grain. It is highly resistant to warping in humid conditions, making it a reliable choice for wine cellar racking. Alder's even texture accepts stains beautifully and can be finished to mimic more expensive hardwoods, giving you a range of design possibilities at a more accessible price point.
Additional Options
We also work with walnut, poplar, cherry, birch, alder, and other commercially available woods. Whatever your vision, we can find the right material to bring it to life.
